ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Local blood suppliers say they are in desperate need of blood donations especially considering Tropical Storm Debby has started to cause damage throughout the Southeast.

As we enter the heart of hurricane season, The Blood Connection, a local blood supplier, is asking for blood from the Roanoke Valley to help cities along the coast that have had to cancel their own blood drives

“So we need our community blood donors in other areas to help support those areas that were not able to collect blood due to the hurricane so that we can make sure that all those hospitals have the blood products they need,” said Ellen Kirtner, the partnerships and media specialist at The Blood Connection.
