Two men, 40s, dead after helicopter crashes into Westmeath farm building as witness heard ‘engine cut out & big bang’ [Video]

TWO men in their 40s have died following a horror helicopter crash in Westmeath.

The fatal incident took place at a pig farm in Joristown, Killucan, Co Westmeath this afternoon.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the piggery just off the R156 road after the alarm was raised of a helicopter hitting a farm building behind a local GAA club.

One of the men who died in the tragedy was an Irish national, while the second is understood to be from eastern Europe.

Their bodies have been removed from the scene to a hospital in Mullingar with post-mortem examinations due to take place.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit is leading the investigation into the incident involving the single-engine aircraft.
