Tucson community gathers to honor Zahriya Demi Moreno, who died following DV incident [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – It was a somber but loving scene at Armory Park in Tucson Friday night as hundreds gathered to honor the life of Zahirya Demi Moreno, who died following a domestic violence incident earlier this week.

Many also gathered at the Aveda Institute, where Zahriya attended school, to support her family and celebrate her life.

“I’ve known the kids since they were 4 years old. We were neighbors. We were friends,” Doreen Meilke said.

Some of the people in attendance at the vigil and fundraiser at the Aveda Institute were classmates or teachers of Zahirya during her time at the school. A photo of her celebrating her recent graduation can be seen below.

“Zahriya was in my first class. It’s a class of 12, and so I was able to help guide her learning esthetics,” Esthetics Educator at the Aveda Institute Marissa Aguirre said.
