‘Splash at the Lake’ community training with Special Olympians in Chesapeake [Video]

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office hosted an event alongside Special Olympians on Saturday.

They joined forces with Virginia Beach Adaptive Watersports to train 14 members of the sheriff’s office’s “Elite Unit”, a community/training program for individuals with intellectual disabilities. 

The 6th annual “Splash at the Lake” brought people together for a fun-filled day of tubing, water-skiing, and boat rides on Oak Grove Lake.

“This is so important to Special Olympic athletes, people with disabilities,” said Chesapeake Undersheriff Dave Rosado. “We want to let people know that, hey, they’re all the same. They’re just like us. So why can’t they go out in the water? And Virginia Beach Adaptive Watersports has that solution for them.”
