Microsoft has agreed a long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland for 30MW of electricity generated at the newly commissioned Lenalea Wind Farm near Letterkenny.
In November 2022, Microsoft announced its ambition to tie down 900MW of renewable energy CPPAs.
The company said 216MW of onshore wind and solar energy projects have reached commercial operation, with a further 250MW due to reach commercial operation this year.
Microsoft wants to power its data centre operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
FuturEnergy is a Coillte-ESB joint venture, and Lenalea Wind Farm cost €40m for SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy to develop.
Mary Lynch, portfolio director, said Lenalea is the first project delivered by FuturEnergy Ireland and the first of seven projects it expects to deliver in partnership with SSE Renewables.
