Dozens of young girls from Lahaina are working hard to represent their community as the town rebuilds from the wildfire.

LAHAINA, Hawai’i (Island News) — Dozens of young girls from Lahaina are working hard to represent their community as the town rebuilds from the wildfire.

With red and white pompoms in hand, dancing and chanting under the scorching hot Lahaina sun in the afternoons, the youth athletes are building up a cheerleading team.

Lahaina has not had a Pop Warner cheerleading team in more than 10 years.

Coach Kisha Stewart shared that it feels particularly meaningful to restore the team this year for the young cheerleaders.

“They want to be a part of a team and after everything that we’ve been through in Lahiana, it’s great to have that sense of belonging,” Stewart shared.
