Hagerstown leader honored for Jonathan Street historic preservation and economic development [Video]

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — Maryland’s legal community is paying tribute to a civic leader in Hagerstown for his work on historic preservation and community revitalization.

The Daily Record saluted Reggie Turner for showcasing Black history and bringing some exciting new energy to Jonathan Street.

As a student at Hagerstown Junior College in 1991 — the predecessor to Hagerstown Community College — he came to Jonathan Street’s Robert Johnson Center to play basketball.

Turner now serves on the boards of the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture and the Western Maryland Economic Development Commission.

“My only goal was using the platform that I had on state commissions on which I served to drive resources to the community that needed them the most,” said Turner. ” We’ve been pretty successful doing that.”
