Great Kids: Middle school students help build new school in Peru [Video]

SIMSBURY, CT (WFSB) – Simsbury middle school students are playing a crucial role in building a school for a rural community in Peru.

Anka Plessinger-Izquierdo, whose parents had the chance to move to the United States when he was 6, has kept strong connections with his former teacher and school in Peru.

This year, when they reached out to request assistance with school supplies, they revealed they needed to relocate their school to a new site.

In response, the Plessinger-Izquierdo family purchased land for the new school.

To support this effort, Anka’s social studies teacher assigned a project focused on global issues, aligning perfectly with the family’s mission.

Anka and his classmates launched a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising funds to help build the school in Peru.

“It’s nice to know that children will have the opportunity to have what we have,” said classmate Greyson Goetz.

So far, the middle schoolers have raised $2,500.
