Grant Public Schools Board of Education incumbents survive recall [Video]

GRANT, Michigan — Two Grant Public Schools Board of Education members will remain in their seats following a May 7 recall election.

Rachal Gort and Richard Vance both won their recall races against respective challengers Mindy Conley and Lindsay Malich.

The recall stems from a community-driven effort to recall multiple members of the board after a controversial mural at the district’s middle school’s health center led to a debate about the health center itself.

The board of commissioners voted to end the district’s contract with the health provider, only to have it renegotiated months later. The whole incident would allegedly cost the district thousands of dollars in legal fees.
