City of Beaufort names new police chief [Video]

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Beaufort Police officers now know who they answer to after their interim chief was named the newest top cop.

Stephenie Price, who has served as the interim chief for the department since Jan. 22 when Dale McDorman retired, is set to be sworn in May 31.

City officials say Price was selected after a nationwide search.

“We trusted our selection process and it yielded two very highly qualified finalists, each capable of successfully leading our Police Department,” City Manager Scott Marshall said. “It was not an easy decision, but in the end the successful community outreach programs and crime abatement initiatives under her leadership, along with the community’s familiarity with her, gave Stephenie the edge.”

Price has plenty of previous policing experience; she served as the assistant police chief in Savannah, Georgia and was the Chief of Police for the Town of Bluffton. She’s been working …
