CapMetro eyes new Pickup zone in this northeast Austin area [Video]

AUSTIN (KXAN) — CapMetro officials are considering the addition of a Pickup zone in a northeast Austin neighborhood as a means of building out transit access in the community.

A proposed Pickup zone in the Decker Lane and Colony Park area is being considered, with partial funding community from Travis County, awaiting approval of an agreement between the county and CapMetro in the upcoming fiscal year. The “historically underinvested” area is noted for lacking robust transit services at this time, with expanded access needed, per CapMetro officials.

CapMetro Pickup services operate similar to a ride-hailing service, said Dottie Watkins, president and CEO of CapMetro. They’re also a tool the transit authority uses to increase public transit access in areas where a fixed bus route might be more challenging to add.
