Bodycam video details hectic evacuation of senior living center after building catches fire

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) – Police bodycam video shows a hectic evacuation after a senior living facility in Kansas caught fire Monday.

According to a release from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical, emergency crews responded to a report of a fire at the Brandon Woods senior living facility on Inverness Drive in Lawrence on Monday afternoon.

Residents of the center as well as people around the community reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

The Lawrence Police Department released video from officers’ body cameras on Tuesday.

Facility staff and police officers can be seen evacuating occupants before firefighters arrived.

Witnesses said large amounts of dense smoke could be seen coming from the building.

The fire was located in the attic of the building, and crews performed venting efforts after they arrived.
