Santa Rosa County Zoning Board denies housing development request [Video]

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — The Santa Rosa Housing Board denied a request to build a new housing development in Northwest Florida.

The failed proposal by The Eagle Group was to rezone property for the Jubilee community in Pace.

People looking to weigh in on a proposed plan to rezone 2,600 acres of vacant land for residential use. The North Santa Rosa County Zoning Board denied the proposal by an overwhelming nine-to-one vote.

The group of developers, known as The Eagle Group, said their proposal would have compared to Walton County’s Seaside community. The project was estimated to bring around 8,000 new homes and 32,000 residents to Pace.

Santa Rosa County District 3 Commissioner James Calkins said he had mixed feelings about the plan. Calkins said his concern was over possible changes to the community if commissioners approved the request.
