Bridgwater’s ‘Celebration Mile’ may not be completed until new health and social care academy is open [Video]

Delivering part of Bridgwater’s ‘Celebration Mile’ will not take place until the town’s new health and social care academy is up and running. Salmon Parade is the home of the former Bridgwater community hospital, which closed its doors in 2014 following the opening of the town’s new hospital and urgent treatment centre on Bower Lane.

Following a successful bid to the government’s levelling up fund, the building will be transformed into a health and social care academy, designed to train up the next generation of professionals in both children’s and adult social care. Numerous walking and cycling improvements are planned on Salmon Parade as part of the delivery of the ‘Celebration Mile’ as part of the Bridgwater town deal, with more than a year’s worth of roadworks officially getting under way on August 5.
