Schools with free, reduced breakfast and lunch in the Greater Baton Rouge area [Video]

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Schools in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes will have free or reduced breakfast and lunch this year. Here’s what parents need to know.

Schools serve free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligibility Provision. The CEP lets schools with mostly low-income students offer free meals through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs to all students without needing to fill out free and reduced lunch forms.

Some schools in the area don’t participate in the CEP. Students at these schools can apply online to get free or reduced breakfast or lunch. Qualifying for free or reduced meals is based on household income.

According to Louisiana Fit Kids, children from households with incomes between 130% and 185% of the federal poverty level qualify for reduced-price school meals and can be charged up to 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch.
