Groundbreaking in Summerset for Highlands at Norman Ranch | News [Video]

SUMMERSET, S.D. – One of the youngest communities in the Black Hills is about to have more places to call home.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday in Summerset for a subdivision. The Highlands at Norman Ranch is situated at Three Flags Lane off Norman Avenue.

Under Vanocker Development 157 homes are expected to go up in phase one. A major hurdle that needed to be cleared before work could begin was bringing utilities under the railroad and the interstate.

Managing Partner for Highlands Subdivision Shawn Rost says, “We worked diligently with South Dakota housing to procure the funds, to spend the money to bring it over, not just for us, but for for all the property owners over here.”

The price tag for each home will top off at around $385,000. This meets the South Dakota Housing Authority’s guidelines for workforce housing.
