WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — An LGBTQ+ youth mental health and empowerment summit was held at the First United Methodist Church. The event ran from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The purpose of the event was the raise awareness about mental health within the LGBTQ+ community along with parents and supporting allies.
Brandi Christiansen, the president and CEO of Mental Health America Wabash Valley Region, spoke more about the importance of acceptance of the community along with giving them a safe space to express themselves.
“We also want those who may be struggling to know that they are not alone. And just center around removing stigma as much as possible so that they know where to go get help if they do need it,” said Christiansen.
