xAI announces expansion of supercomputer [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Elon Musk’s xAI has announced plans for an expansion of its “Colossus” supercomputer facility in Memphis.

The expansion will incorporate a minimum of one million Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). They plan to complete this expansion by 2026.

Tech companies Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro Computer (SMC) will also establish operations in Memphis. While these companies are expected to bring thousands of jobs, their locations have yet to be announced.

“In Memphis, we’re pioneering development in the heartland of America,” xAI’s Brent Mayo said. “We’re not just leading from the front; we’re accelerating progress at an unprecedented pace while ensuring the stability of the grid utilizing megapack technology.”

The Greater Memphis Chamber issued a statement Wednesday saying xAI is “setting the stage for Memphis to become the global epicenter of artificial intelligence.”
