WWI monument vandalized in Northeast Philly [Video]

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a World War I monument was vandalized in Northeast Philadelphia.

Officials say they received a report of vandalism at Cottman and Rising Sun Avenues just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they saw the monument defaced with red graffiti and a message reading “Hamas is here.”

Residents, officials, and CLIP quickly came together to clean up the memorial, according to a social media post from the Burholme Town Watch and Civic Association.

Town Watch President Aizaz Gill created the post. In it, she said the vandalism was “totally unacceptable” and they “won’t stand for this type of criminal protest.”

Police are investigating, with no word on possible suspects.
