Wrong-way driver causes fatal I-5 collision in suspected DUI [Video]

The causing driver in the crash was a 17-year-old boy, WSP says.

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A wrong-way driver is in custody after causing a fatal collision on northbound Interstate 5 in Lakewood early Friday morning.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) says the driver, a teen boy, hit another vehicle head-on while driving south on NB I-5, killing the driver of the vehicle that was hit. The causing driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide, WSP’s John Dattilo said on social media.

Washington State Patrol identified the driver who was killed as Mia C. Tanner Lockard, 18, of Washougal, Wash.

WSP first shared info about the collision at 12:38 a.m. Friday. Northbound I-5 between Bridgeport Way and State Route 512 was closed for over 4 hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The driver who caused the accident was not injured, according to WSP.
