COLUMBIA — A Columbia and Boone County nonprofit dedicated to helping people with disabilities achieve independence is celebrating its 60th anniversary.
Woodhaven offers a variety of services, including workforce development, community connections and housing assistance.
“We help them get job skills, write resumes and help them with their interview process,” said Joy Sweeney, chief executive officer of Woodhaven.
Residents and members, such as Angie Minner, have opportunities to secure jobs and participate in activities specialized to their interests.
“They make sure that she gets to work every day,” said De Minner, Angie’s mother. “They make sure that they (listen) to her wants and activities that she wants to go to. And they make sure she gets to those activities.”
Programs including dance, ceramics and horseback riding empower individuals and encourage personal growth.
