As of 5:50 p.m. Friday, all Interstate 95 southbound lanes in Augusta were reopened, state officials said.
AUGUSTA, Maine — One woman has died following a multi-vehicle crash that shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 Friday afternoon in Augusta.
Traffic on I-95 in Augusta was stopped on the southbound side at about 3:09 p.m. Friday due to a construction zone lane closure, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
“In the area of exit 113, where vehicles were stopped in traffic, a pickup truck rear-ended an SUV, which led to a 5-vehicle crash,” the release stated.
A female passenger in the SUV that was struck was pronounced dead at the scene, Moss said. A dog that was in the vehicle also died.
According to Moss, all other injuries sustained in the crash were not life-threatening. Other individuals who were injured were taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for treatment.
