A woman has died as a result of a four-alarm house fire in Georgetown that broke out Saturday night, according to officials.
Georgetown firefighters responded to the fire at 238 East Main St. around 10:50 p.m., the Georgetown Fire Department said in a press release. At the scene, they discovered heavy flames shooting 20 feet up in the air from the roof of the two-and-half-story single-family home.
Firefighters soon learned that three of the home’s residents were able to escape unharmed, but that a woman was still inside, the fire department said. Firefighters entered the home and soon found the woman on the second floor.
They carried the woman out of the home through a second-floor window, and she was brought by ambulance to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport with serious injuries, the fire department said. She was later declared dead.
