Sure, they complain about the T and have to look both ways — twice — at most big intersections, but Bostonians would rather hoof it or take mass transit than drive.

According to newly released data, the state’s capital city ranks fifth from the bottom nationwide for vehicle miles traveled among the 50 biggest metropolitan areas.

City residents drove 22.8 miles daily, per capita last fall, according to data compiled by Replica, a Kansas-based analytics firm.

Boston finished ahead of other cities with well-established public transit systems or famed for their walkability.

The findings were first reported by Axios Boston.

They were Chicago (21.8), San Francisco (21.7), Philadelphia (21.1) and New York City (14.4), the analysis showed.
