Wilmington City Council holds closed-door meeting [Video]

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT)—The Wilmington City Council left a closed-door meeting Friday afternoon that sources tell WECT was about the city’s police department.

City leaders did not provide any details on the meeting, and Councilman Luke Waddell would only give the following statement:

“Council provided instruction and guidance to staff. No other action was taken…Our community deserves and expects transparency, both those elected and appointed. It is essential that public concerns about leadership especially with regard to public safety are openly acknowledged and addressed.”

The city recently paid an outside agency $75,000 to investigate the department. Still, the results of the investigation were not made public, although Mayor Bill Saffo acknowledged that Chief Donny Williams has some issues to address.
