RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – In light of the school shooting in Madison, Wisconsin Monday, Rapid City Area Schools wants to ensure the public that school safety is always their number one priority.
RCAS Chief Financial Officer Coy Sasse said the district always wants to ensure their facilities are safe for their students and staff in the event of an intruder.
He added school safety continues to be a major emphasis for RCAS in their Master Planning process. In addition, he assumes one of the common topics that will arise in the Master Plan Survey responses is school safety.
“The ability to have like, for example, safe and secure entrances right. Entrances that can immediately be locked down in the case of an intruder. And so, that’s been an emphasis, I think it will continue to be an emphasis,” Sasse said.
