WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A celebration 250 years in the making is underway this weekend in Wilkes-Barre Township.
Township officials honored the place many call home with a free outdoor event to mark the semi-quincentennial.
Saturday afternoon kicked off with a parade to get things started. The 250th celebration of Wilkes-Barre Township brought a celebratory crowd to the Mohegan Arena parking lot. The event also provided a way for local businesses to cash in like a Mexican food street vendor.
“It helps business-wise, ’cause everybody comes out. I mean we’re stationed locally, but everybody comes out from the community so it helps business-wise,” said Anthony Telatenchi the manager of Tacos La Poblanita.
Most of the vendors here are food trucks that are usually parked in one spot unless they are at an event. For those businesses outside of Wilkes-Barre, this is a way for them to expand their customer base.
