Wild horses brought to Carthage for adoption event [Video]

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage’s Civil War arena offered a chance to give some wild horses a second chance at a good life.

The Bureau of Land Management hosted what’s becoming an annual event for wild horse and burro placement there today.

Roughly 70 wild horses and burros were brought to the facility from western states, like Nevada and Utah where they originally ran wild.

Officials with the BLM say the Carthage event brings people from as far as Texas and Pennsylvania.

The sale comes from the “Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971,” and is designed to give these animals a home where they can be taken care of.

“Out west, the lands can’t sustain the herd sizes that we have out there, so offering them to the general public gives them a better life, and they don’t end up dying of starvation,” said Shannon McCrory, Bureau of Land Management …
