ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The wife of a Rockdale County environmental official who suddenly died after testifying during a meeting that state lawmakers held about the BioLab chemical fire is asking for patience, understanding and privacy as she grapples with her loss.

Kenny Johnson, chairman of the Rockdale Soil and Water Conservation District State Board, gave testimony Tuesday during a hearing at the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, across from the State Capitol, on the Sept. 29 fire at the Conyers plant and its impact on the surrounding community.

After testifying, Johnson “complained of shortness of breath and subsequently collapsed in the hallway” outside the hearing, according to the Georgia House Democratic Caucus.
