Where to get free fentanyl testing strips for National Overdose Awareness Day [Video]

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Northeast Ohio’s health systems are teaming up to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse by offering free fentanyl testing strips for National Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, according to a press release from Cleveland Clinic.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid 100 times more powerful than morphine and can be fatal even in small doses, according to the Ohio Department of Health, which also reports fentanyl was involved in 80% of unintentional drug overdose deaths in Ohio in 2021.

Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals plan to offer the testing strips and naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an overdose, at the following locations throughout the week:
