CLEVELAND (WJW) — Keeping expired and unused medication in your home can be dangerous, and it’s important that the drugs are disposed of properly.

You have an opportunity to do just that Saturday during a Drug Take Back Day hosted by The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Cleveland District Office.

The event offers community members a free, anonymous way to dispose of their unneeded medication. The goal is to prevent addiction and overdose deaths.

“Drug overdose deaths are claiming more than 300 lives every day,” a press release from the DEA said. “According to a report published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a majority of people who misused a prescription medication obtained the medicine from a family member or friend.”
