TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – President Joe Biden is officially out of the running for the 2024 Presidential Election after dropping out of the race Sunday afternoon.

In a statement posted on social media, Biden said the move was in the best interest of his party and country, and said he has decided to focus solely on finishing his term.

The sudden announcement surprised some local voters.

“I thought that he really was going to stick through with everything, so I was really shocked,” said voter Toryonna Banks.

Biden’s decision also struck a chord with local officials like Carrie Hartman, the executive director of the Lucas County Democratic Party.

“I was surprised too,” Hartman said, expressing her appreciation for Biden as a public servant, but acknowledging growing concerns.
