LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Hundreds of families filled Adado Riverfront Park in Lansing for the city’s 4th of July Celebration. While the festivities may revolve around one night, city officials say it takes months of planning and collaboration to bring the concept to life.

“We all take a section of the pie and plan events. Parks and Recreation takes responsibility of the park. They put up a fence. They are providing music for the fireworks,” says Sgt. Randall Hon with the Lansing Police Department.

He is one of several dozen officers hitting the streets to help guide both people and vehicles from the festivities.

Sgt. Hon says the months of planning bring together public safety and city leaders. The goal is to ensure they are all on the same page during set up, the main event and tear down—and the same goes for emergencies.
