TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Union Health President Steve Holman held a press conference on Friday afternoon to respond to the FTC’s comments surrounding the upcoming Regional-Union merger, and associated Certificate of Public Advantage (COPA). 

In the conference, Holman maintained that this merger was centered around a “big and bold” approach to healthcare, and that troubling health metrics in Vigo County warranted a fresh approach to treatment and prevention.

“We’re working cooperatively with the Indiana Department of Health in a very collaborative way. We can change that (the health metrics) over time” says Holman.

Holman says that the FTC regularly opposes COPA agreements across the country, and that Union Health was not surprised to receive pushback from the FTC. The main concern from the FTC was prices. Holman says that the COPA provides safeguards for price gouging, and that they are committed to providing affordable healthcare.
