A mosquito collected in College Station has tested positive for the West Nile Virus, according to the Brazos County Health District (BCHD).

The BCHD Vector Surveillance Program has confirmed that mosquito samples collected in the 77845 zip code of College Station tested positive for the West Nile Virus. The samples were tested at the Texas Department of State Health Services Arbovirus Laboratory and all of Brazos County is considered positive for the virus, according to BCHD.

In a press release, BCHD said there are no medications to treat or vaccines to prevent West Nile Virus infection.

BCHD has asked all residents to remember the 4D’s to reduce exposure:

DEET all day, every day: Whenever outside, use and reapply insect repellents that have the active ingredient DEET or other EPA-registered repellents and always follow label instructions.

Dress: Wear long, loose and light-colored clothing outside.

Dusk and dawn: Limit spending time outdoors when mosquitos are most active.
