Weather alert for strong thunderstorms in Clarke County Thursday evening [Video]

The National Weather Service issued a report at 7:03 p.m. on Thursday for strong thunderstorms until 7:45 p.m. for Clarke County.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 7:02 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm 9 miles southeast of Putnam, or 12 miles west of Thomasville, moving northeast at 20 mph,” according to the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

The weather service states, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.”
