Wear purple day raises awareness and support for survivors of Domestic Violence [Video]

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Oct. 17 is Domestic Violence Awareness Day also known as Wear Purple Day.

It’s a day to raise awareness of the issue, support survivors and honor lives lost.

To honor survivors, people all over the world wear purple which symbolizes peace, courage, survival, honor, and dedication to awareness.

Partners for Peace is one of many organizations in Maine supporting, advocating, and educating communities on domestic violence.

The community education program manager says she’s learned so much more about the issue and she along with her colleagues hope to open the minds of others as well.
