WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Wausau School District has been in talks to potentially add an operational referendum question to the ballot for the April election. Monday’s school board meeting determined whether or not that question will be on the ballot.
In the meeting, the board decided they in fact will ask the community to support an $8 million, non-recurring referendum over five years.
The School District has been in talks about adding the operational referendum question to the April ballot for several weeks. The $8 million would help the district maintain the safety of their buildings, while enhancing student learning.
“Operational needs throughout the district to help with the budget deficit that the district is facing,” Wausau School District Assistant Superintendent of Operations Josh Viegut explained. “Ongoing maintenance needs, supporting student programming, and attracting and entertaining staff.”
