Washington County opening severe weather shelters [Video]

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill said some areas of the Willamette Valley could see lows below freezing this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Oregon — Washington County will open inclement winter weather shelters, starting Saturday evening. 

Both the Beaverton Community Center and the Blanton Street Building will open at 5 p.m. and will remain open for 24 hours. The Blanton Street Building location will be operated by Just Compassion of East Washington County.

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill said Wednesday that some areas of the Willamette Valley — including Portland — could see lows below freezing this weekend, but temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s each day.

Walk-ins are welcome, and hot meals are provided. Domestic animals are also allowed, though county officials note that locations’ individual pet policies may vary. 

The Beaverton Community Center is accessible via TriMet route Nos. 52, 76 and 78; the Blanton Street Building is accessible via TriMet route No. 57.
