War Eagle Awards highlight local efforts for public service and human rights [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – December 10th is ‘Universal Human Rights Day’.

Here in Siouxland, the Sioux City Human Rights Commission commemorated the day with the annual ‘War Eagle Awards’. The awards honor local individuals and organizations for outstanding public service in promoting civil and human rights in the Siouxland area.

This year, there were four recipients: Mayflower Congregational United Church of Christ and Women Aware were nominated organizations, Kristine Bornholtz and Perla Alarcon-Flory were nominated as individuals for their leadership, service, and dedication to civil rights in Siouxland.

“Having a night where we’re celebrating the work done in this community towards making Siouxland a better place, it’s just heartwarming and it’s amazing to be here,” said Karen Mackey, executive director for Sioux City Human Rights Commission.
