WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Alliance for Cape Fear Trees has helped plant 3,000 trees around the city since its founding in 2015.
12 volunteers spent time maintaining dozens of trees they’ve previously planted on Saturday, Aug. 17.
This included mulching, staking and monitoring the health of the trees.
The president of the alliance says they have created a sense of community–for both volunteers and people living in Wilmington.
“There’s such community in caring for the canopy. And, our volunteers – even those who are just joining us – are recognizing that we’re a happy bunch. It’s really nice to come out and encounter neighbors. We encountered a neighbor today who had named their tree and they’re enjoying watering it and watching it grow,” says ACFT President Margee Herring.
