Volunteers seek to provide hurricane relief [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The relief effort will last months for the areas stricken by hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The need is prompting volunteers from around the country to respond, but how they do so is important to make sure the effort is effective.

Donating blood will help since they canceled blood drives in the hurricane-hit areas but if you want to go there and help, sign up with an organization that can train you and send you where you’re needed most.

“When bad things happen, people want to jump in and help,” said Margo Susco, community engagement coordinator for the Tucson Police Department. “Especially working for the police department I felt really compelled to do what I could,”

Starting Sunday, Susco will be a shelter worker for the American Red Cross in Florida.
