SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT) – The Saginaw community rallied to help a family that nearly lost everything when a pickup truck crashed into their home, starting a fire.
The pickup hit the Beechwood Ave. home in Saginaw on Sep. 7. Weeks later, that location was the scene of a more festive atmosphere, as volunteers continued to repair the home.
The Saginaw area continues to raise funds for Shaneka Cannon and her two young children.
“I had seen the video of the incident, and it weighed on me a little bit,” says Alexander Griffin, whose company C&J Handyman got to work. “We started, went and bought some lumber and some house wrap, and started there.”
People and companies heard about volunteer work. The donations started coming in, and “Project Beechwood” was born.
“To see all this for me and my children,” said Shaneka Cannon, “it’s a wonderful feeling.”
