Virginia hires Final Four hero Kyle Guy as special assistant [Video]

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Just as Kyle Guy had done a decade earlier, when Tony Bennett offered him a basketball scholarship at Virginia, Guy took Bennett’s offer of a job last month and told the coach he’d need some time to think about it.

Of course, Guy knows he had already made up his mind to join Bennett’s UVa staff.

“It was the same thing when he was recruiting me,” Guy said Tuesday by phone from Indianapolis. “He offered me the position, like the scholarship, and I tried really hard not to say ‘Yes,’ right away. So, I went home and slept on it, and accepted.”

Guy, the most outstanding player of the Cavaliers’ run to the 2019 national championship will be a special assistant, with a focus on athlete mentorship and development. His responsibilities will run the gamut, from coaching on the court, to playing on scout teams, to game-planning to breaking down video.
