Vinton Police Department helps families in need for the holiday season [Video]

VINTON, Iowa (KCRG) – The Vinton Police Department hosted its 6th annual ‘Holiday With a Cop’ at the Theisen’s in Vinton on December 15.

The event helped around 90 kids from the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District and parents like Paul Anthony Smith said the event was a big help.

Smith said “Stuff is so expensive we can’t afford as much as we used to so it’s kind of a real nice program.”

Members of the Vinton Police Department noted this event has a real impact for the families who took part.

Police Chief, Ted Paxton said “We know that there is a need and we’re there to fulfill that need.”

Each kid had around $110 to spend.

All of the money came from community donations.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Department and Benton County Conservation also helped families shop.
