Vinton community comes together to help victims of apartment fire [Video]

VINTON, Iowa (KCRG) – A fire in Vinton Sunday night left many without a home and much of their belongings just days before the holidays.

When Stacie Marzen heard about it, she sprang into action. A close friend of hers called the building her home.

“I offered to set up an account at the local bank. And I will kind of coordinate that and keep track of all that for her,” said Marzen.

One woman, who asked TV9 not to share her name, says it’s a testament to the community effort to help those who experienced loss.

“I just think it’s awesome. I mean, you don’t always see that but I’ve seen posts on Facebook and there’s so many people willing to help and willing to help,” she said.

It’s an experience Marzen didn’t go through first hand, but makes her emotional just the same.
