Vigo County Library removes benches at Main Library, public outcry online follows | Indiana [Video]

TERRE HAUTE (WTHI) – A known gathering space for the homeless is Terre Haute is gone.

Officials with the Vigo County Public Library say they recently removed the benches outside of the main branch.

The removal prompted a community outcry online and now city officials are responding as well. 

A library official says two reasons led up to the removal of the benches outside the facility.

They say a lot of non-members were using the benches and the benches were also in need of some maintence.

County library officials did not specify the exact number of non-members using the benches.

Right now, a maintence team for the library has them in their possession.
