Vienna Public Library gives back to the community [Video]

VIENNA, W.Va. (WTAP)—The Vienna Public Library is hosting its annual Food for Fines event through November.

The library is required to offer at least two weeks of assistance a year to people who want to pay back their book fines.

The Food for Fines event allows each person to bring in a non-perishable food item in exchange for one dollar knocked off their book fees.

This event allows the library to help people pay their fees and contribute to solving hunger in Wood County.

“It is a program we have done for many, many years. We are actually required by the state of WV, if we receive state funding, to offer at least 2 weeks a year where people can not have penalties or overdue fines, and we take that one step further and look at it actually as a way we can further benefit the community by helping with food …
