[Updating] The Progressive Labour Party [PLP] is holding a press conference today [August 30] to announce their candidate for the Constituency 36 Sandys North by-election. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
The by-election – which was called due to the resignation of PLP MP Kathy Lightbourne-Simmons — will be held on October 4th.
There will be at least three candidates in this by-election, possibly even four if the FDM announces a candidate, as Carl Neblett is the OBA’s candidate for the seat and independent candidate Cire Bean has also announced that he will stand in the by-election.
Since the one seat system started in 2003, the PLP have won Constituency 36 in all 5 General Elections. In the 2020 General Election, Ms Lightbourne-Simmons won the seat with 59.04% of the vote, the FDM’s Marc Bean was second with 25.34% of the vote and the OBA’s Jeff Sousa was third with 15.62% of the vote.
