Librarians’ careful curation of books are crucial to children’s development, ability to evaluate credible sources, and capacity to cultivate empathy and understanding. In ‘That Librarian,’ Jones argues that book bans not only threaten our freedom to read, but also puts librarians’ lives and livelihoods at risk. “I want my students, and I want everyone in my community to learn to be critical thinkers,” Jones says; and without libraries, this can be difficult to achieve.
